I am in the writing center right now, waiting to start work

And there is nothing really to do but blog. Matt is doing his office hours...in his office. I hate these days where my schedule doesn't match up and I have to be at school even when I am not getting paid until my "shift" starts...don't ask me why my schedule is like that, it doesn't make sense to me either. Matt was working in the writing center earlier today, until he went to work in his office. Plus being the full-time professor god he is, he is the faculty English liason something or another (I actually may have made up that title but it is basically what he does) and works similar hours to me in the writing center--similar, but not exact, which would make life easier. He is technically in charge of me...sort of, the lines of power are a bit fuzzy, but I end up doing a lot of projects for him and his co-person, Bill. But, I wouldn't be working here at all if it wasn't for Matt--I mean, I would be back in Texas and never of heard of this school. Someone just came in to see the other tutor (it is a student of hers)...they are working on works cited.

I am sure no one would want a blow by blow of my life here in the writing center, so for my own jollies, I am going to put up cute photos/links. The photo of the dancing cat that I think looks like Catspurr always makes me happy when I go to my blog, so I wanted to see if I could find things like this, more of this, etc....

Here is a whole site devoted to cuteness:

Time to go tutor!

Actually, when I look at the pictures more closely, they are a little disturbing. In the first, I am guessing that this cat had 10 kittens! And the cat looks a little burdened (maybe I am putting myself in her paws) and not that happy about her newfound motherhood. Realistic but not too cute. The other picture, the kitten looks like it is screaming in pain and is actually being comforted by the other kitten (or the other kitten is trying to sleep and is simply tolerating the nocturnal horrors the other cat is experiencing.) Again, I might be reading into those two images, but the cuteness factor has diminished for me. :-( Maybe I am hungry.

The creatures on that cat are actually rats, not kittens.

Okay, I was wrong. But the idea of ten rats on a cat is disturbing in a whole different way.

Ohhhh, I remember my Writing Center days! I will be back there someday :-) I like one-on-one teaching, so I am natural Writing Center material. And I think working in such Centers for so long forced me to learn the rules of grammar--the ones you know unconsciously, but have never actually formally learned--so that I could explain them to students when they asked me! (USF has a lot of ESL students, and they sometimes would ask very challenging grammar questions.)

I got a job as an online Writing Center tutor, but I had to decline it because I realized it was too much with the baby. They wanted me to commit to certain set hours every week, and I had to have a minimum of 12. I'm afraid it never would have worked, since the baby would not have agreed to calmly entertain herself during those hours. But I am curious to explore the world of online teaching and tutoring, too...broaden my horizons in this multimedia age!
