News Outside of Myself

I tend to be very non-aware of the goingons in the world, but this week I have been paying attention to news, mostly via the internet, because the moving process has been so insular. So, I am listing various news items that I have found interesting...

Have you heard of the Harvard student who got caught plagiarizing in her novel that was published? For an English professsor, it really isn't that startling to hear that a student plagiarized--I don't feel shocked, or anything. In a way, it is the complete shock that I see in people that I think is newsworthy, more so than the plagiarism issue. There has been so many articles of late about this student, but here is one I ran across that came out yesterday.

Steve Colbert has some cojones! At least that is what some of the press is saying. I am a big fan of Colbert, and I like the idea of Bush being made uncomfortable, so I am tickled that Steve Colbert "lampooned" him in a speech right in front of the president--you can read the transcript here.

Okay, I saw this on the news, but it is so odd, of course I found an internet link: A 37 pound woman gave birth to a healthy normal sized baby. You have to see it to believe it.

For some international news...have you ever watched news while you were half-asleep, and incorporated it into your dreams? Well, I did this with the earthquake in Tonga news--I was watching CNN and trying to wake up and they were talking about the possibility of a tsunami. Well, I thought that a tsunami was going to hit us--in Michigan!--while I was dreaming. It was one of those dreams where you want to wake up so you can save yourself but you are too darn tired.

Enjoy the links!
